User friendly Design of a medical shockwave-device
Our environment is more and more influenced by complex technique. Our task as designers is it also to meet this “MORE” of technique in the field of medical engineering, to design it and to make it accessible to the customer.
In co-operation with the company AST Advanced Shockwave Technology GmbH, Jena I developed a shock wave therapy unit for the treatment of orthopedic ailments such as calcaneal spur, tennis elbow, calcified tendinitis of shoulder during the realization of my diploma thesis. With regard to the design process special attention was turned on the increase of the usability referring to the orthopedic practice.
After intensive examination with typical disease patterns as well as treatment situations in the orthopedic practice I developed different functional models. I incorporated my knowledge and expertise from those models directly into the design process and into the final model. The prototype of the shock wave therapy unit I have built in the workshops of the Bauhaus University Weimar.
